Despite a strong outing on Thursday against Puerto Rico, Team Albany fell 8-4 and was thus eliminated from tournament play. We'll be gathering tonight for a team party to lick our wounds and share battle stories, and get two bonus days of beach and sun before heading back to the northeast. In spite of the disappointment of not moving on in the tourney, it's been a great week of getting to play with new teammates and building baseball friendships. We were blessed that Steve V put together such a great group of guys to share the experience.
Hats off to Timmy Brown and Stevie VG for their work in getting this team to commit early and bring a strong team to beautiful Clearwater Fla to play ball. As Timmy said, we were the strongest 1 and 4 team down here. Except for a few innings when we shot ourselves in the foot, we always thought we were as good as any team we played. The older I get the more I realize how the idea of course is to win, but really it's the chance to compete to win that keeps us coming down here. It was tough this year with back to back doubleheaders, but after games, the shaking hands with our competitors brings home the reality that winning is the goal but competing to win is why we come down here. Ah the northeast beckons.
