The New York Giants took on The Bombers (also from New York) for the second consecutive year for the 45's Championship (yes, guys in the 33's. .........there is baseball after 40).
49° at game time.........but playing baseball in the cold is better than watching baseball in the cold, I guess!.
Anyway. ........Giants took two games to clinch the trophy. True to any winning team's recipe ..........Pitching and defense were the main ingredients. Jim Hicks at SS was athletic and consistent. Joe Burns hung tough on the mound after innings 1 and 2 didn't go as planned. Defensively, we made the basic plays that went a long way towards maintaining positive team mojo - that and staying calm while being down 6-0 after two innings in game 2.
Timely hitting in both games got the ball rolling (pun intended)......Wayne Phillips, Pete Geannelis, Mario Arduini, Mark Dabney (led the league in foul homeruns this year)........all had important hits. Jim Hicks had a big hit down the 3rd baseline that was clearly foul (I hate that such an important hit was misdiagnosed the way it was)..........
Scores were 7-0 and 9-6
Party at Geannelis' house on the 17th.......
Thanks Giants for all the practices, hard work and for playing ball while keeping our minds open but our mouths shut during the season ........you guys deserve to win!
