The Blue Jays and Chatham Brewers met once during the regular season with the Blue Jays scratching out a 2-1 win in a pitcher's duel in Schenectady. The two squads met again in the 45 division quarterfinals, this time in Chatham. The Blue Jays persevered for two victories this time, 17-10 and 15-10. In Game 1, the Brewers took an early 4-0 lead and actually won most innings, but the Blue Jays' 15-run fourth proved too much to overcome. In Game 2, the Blue Jays jumped out 5-0 early, but the Brewers came back to take 7-6 and and 10-7 leads, before the Blue Jays pulled away with a 6-run sixth.
For the Blue Jays, Rich Garbarino and John Weber picked up the wins, with Mike Surin contributing in relief. Between the two teams, there were a lot of hits, several walks, a few strikeouts, a couple hit batters, some good defense, some bad defense, and one long home run, a solo shot by the Brewers' skipper Don McComb.
The Brewers' fellas were excellent hosts, providing some eats between the two games. Many thanks and congratulations to them for a fine season!
Next week, the Blue Jays meet the defending and regular season champion Giants in the semi-finals.
