Blue Jays Best Braves, Bag Bye

Three weeks ago, after a sound beating by the Cubs, the Blue Jays' record stood at 6-6, and it wasn't clear whether the squad was going to be relevant in the top half of the league standings or sink deep into the pack. But the Jays end the regular season on a four-game win streak with today's 8-4 win over the Braves and earn a first-round playoff bye.

Today's matchup at Bob Moore Field in Scotia was a good one, pitting the Jays' John Weber against the Braves' Greg Witalec on the mound. The Blue Jays led 2-1 after the first inning and it remained there until the Braves pulled even in the top of the fifth. But the Jays tallied four in their next ups to lead 6-2. Both teams plated two in the sixth, which ended the scoring.

The Blue Jays gained nine hits, including doubles by Paul Post and Curt Tucker and a line shot triple by Tom Bradley. Paul Post had yet another multi-hit game. Behind Weber, Jays defense played solid error-free ball, with the exception of the backup SS (some guy named Tucker).

The Braves earned eight hits, including a clutch 2-out, 2-RBI deep double to left center by skipper Steve Schaefer.

The Blue Jays end the season at 10-6 and hold the #4 or #5 playoff seed (depending on the outcome of the Brewers-Yankees game). Either way, the Jays will meet the Chatham Brewers in the quarterfinals and look forward to it!

Curt,
If we already know who we are going to play, can we just play them the weekend of the 12/13 anyway? What if the weekend of 19/20 it rains?... Then the rain weekend will be the w/e we take off.
Mike
