Cubs lose one, and win one.


The Cubs lost the early game, yesterday at New Scotland, against the Bombers 7-2.
Darnell Baker led the way for the Bombers, scattering 7 hits, 1 walk, and 1 HBP, while striking out 3.
The Bombers were only able to manage 8 hits themselves, but the Cubs contributed 2 walks, 2 HBP, and 2 errors, all in the 1st 3 innings.
Ryan Johnson hit a 2-run homer in the 1st.
The Bombers scored 4 more in the second inning on just 2 hits, due mainly to the 2 walks, 2 hit batters, and 1 error.
They picked up their final run of the game in the 3rd inning on a Lex Herlett RBI single.
Darnell Baker, and Mike Reuter had two hits each for the Bombers.
The Cubs fell to 11-2 with the loss.

The Cubs fared much better in their second game of the day.
The Cubbies plated 4 runs in the first inning against the Black Sox, and rode the pitching of Jonny Martin and Chris Dunn to a 8-2 victory.
Jon Martin pitched the first 5 innings, allowing just 1 unearned run on 4 hits, and 1 walk, while striking out 1.
Chris Dunn pitched the final 2 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits, and 3 walks, while striking out 3.
The Cubs defense was strong in support of their pitching, committing only 2 errors, while turning 2 nice double plays, both involving new second base prospect Tom Maney!!!
The Cubs offense banged out 10 hits, with Bobby Davis, Dave Mitchell, Andy Hoyle, and Chris Dunn all getting two hits each.
Bobby Davis drilled a towering 2-run HR in the 3rd.
The Black Sox offense provided 6 hits on the day, with Mike Cleary collecting two of those hits.
The Cubs improved to 12-2, with the win.
The Cubbies meet up with the Black Sox again next Sunday, and finish with a battle against the defending champion Giants on the final Sunday, at New Scotland at 3:15 pm.
