On Sunday morning at the C-diamond, the Cubs beat the Royals 6-1, to move top 10-1 on the season, and sweep the 3-game season series with the Royals. Mike Girard held the Royals scoreless through his six innings of work, scattering 4 singles and two walks, while striking out 5. The Royals put runners in scoring position in 3 of Girard's 6 innings, but were unable to score. Jim McQuade made several great catches in left field to help preserve the scoreless slate for Girard.
Shawn Maney, Bobby Davis, and Ron Lochner all had two hits each for the Cubs, in what was an 11 hit attack. The Cubs remain just 1/2 game behind the Giants for first place, with just 5 games left, and the last game of the season being against the Giants. The schedule maker knew what he was doing when he inked the Giants vs the Cubs in the last weekend of play.
Next up for the Cubbies, a 9:30 match-up with the always tough Blue Jays at Swift Road field, Sunday morning. Should be a good one.
