Though they never trailed, the Bombers couldn't shake the pesky Blue Jays in a good game at Satellite on Aug 2. Bombers won 7-4.
After the Jays stranded a runner in the top of the first, Lex led off the bottom with a ground rule double, later scoring on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Johnson. The Jays stranded another runner in the second, two in the third, and another in the fourth, before Johnson picked up two more RBI for the Bombers in the fourth on a line shot over the fence in left center. The Jays broke through in the fifth with four singles, aided by an error, tying the score 3-3. But yours truly misplaced a Satellite hop which ultimately led to a Bombers run in their half of the fifth. The Blue Jays had something going in the sixth, loading the bases with two singles and a walk, but Bombers' hurler Herrlett won the 2-out battle with, again, yours truly, to strand the runners. Bombers added three in the bottom half to extend their lead. Wayne Newcomb led off the seventh with a line shot off Bombers reliever Darnell Baker and Paul Post followed with the Jays' tenth single of the game. But Lex, who had moved to CF, made a heck of a running catch on a gap ball from Rich Garbarino and the Jays could only scratch out one more run.
Newcomb, Post, Tucker, and Bob Noto each had 2-hits for the Jays, and Chris Abrams and Rich Garbarino pitched well, but the Bombers moved their record to 7-3, while the Jays fell to 6-5.
With a few games unreported to the webmaster, the online standings are incomplete. As best I can tell (and assuming the Giants beat the Brewers on 7/19), here's where the 45s stand:
Whose gonna be in the top 6, what will be the seeds in the double elimination tourny 9/12-13 ? who will win the regular season? 4-6 games left to watch all that unfold. Some good ball being played down the stretch. Watched this game last weekend ...in fact all three at Satellite could have gone either way. JREEL Golden Marlins
