The original plan for starting the fall ball season was to play Saturday (preferably morning) games at the Satellite field. Two things got in the way. First, although the response to an extended season was favorable, many respondents told me that Saturdays in August were going to be tough. Secondly, the Satellite field is being used on Saturday mornings for 45 division make-up games and on weeknights for the 55 playoffs. So we are going to kick off the extended season with a Thursday evening game at the Watervliet High School field.
Dennis Lane of the 45 Shaskys coaches the baseball team at Watervliet and has maintained the field throughout the summer. I think everyone will be very pleased with the field conditions.
The field will be available at 5:00 for batting and/or fielding practice. The game itself will start promptly at 5:45. Anyone who shows up after 5:45 will simply be added to one of the teams.
The cost per player will be $7.
Please respond to this post or e-mail at dballjr@nycap.rr.com if you plan to play this Thursday. Walk-ins are welcome but having a head count in advance will be very helpful. Please also tell me if you would like to pitch and/or catch so I can ensure that both teams have those positions filled.
The extended season is geared primarily to players whose 55 season just ended. However, the Thursday evening schedule also works well for players in the 45 division who want to get some game action in during the week. Just don't get all whiny if us older fellas show you a little baseball!
Looking for a few more players for Thursday night. We especially need pitchers and catchers.
45ers...even though the extended season was designed for guys in the 55 division, younger players are welcome to attend. Great way to keep your arm loose and your bat ready for weekend games.
For GPS users, the address of the high school is 1245 Hillside Drive, Watervliet, NY 12189.
Please e-mail me at dballjr@nycap.rr.com if you would like to play. I would like to ensure that both teams have pitchers and catchers. Thank you.
Rob - We are "managing" the fall ball on a week-by-week basis. If there is enough interest, we may be able to hold games for two age groups in future weeks. The guys signed up to play this week are from the 45 and 55 divisions. I don't know how beneficial it would to either that group or players from the 33s to mix the two this week.
Understood. My assumption is that 33's wouldn't be joining this week - I was thinking for more in the future after the 33 season is over and teams start getting eliminated from the playoffs; like in about two weeks. I'd tell my guys to check in with you after the 17th.
