In spite of a lot of rain surrounding the Satellite field in the Saturday/Sunday overnight hours, the field survived to host the 1st annual Cubs/Marlins reunion game. The game wasn't as competitive as expected, with the Cubs winning 13-1, but the picnic afterwards was a huge success. Friends and ex-teammates got together, with the help of the wives to have a nice feast and serious re-hydration session. The weather cooperated and a good time was had by all.
In the game, Chris Dunn and Ron Massaroni combined on a 4-hitter; allowing just one run (a Darrell Duncan home run). Ralph Caputo (2 singles) and Scott Ross had the other Marlin hits. For the Cubs, Chris Dunn and Ron Lochner led the way with 3 hits and 3 RBI's each, and Mike Girard chipped in with two hits and 2 RBI's. The Cubbies pounded out a total of 14 hits and 13 runs.
A special appearance from Randy Craft brought about some defensive highlights! We counted 3 "Randy plays" at short, with the one in the hole being a particularly spectacular play!
The Marlins are a great group of guys, many of which I call friends. It was great to share a morning on the field and an afternoon off the field with them all. We were missing some good friends on both sides, that couldn't make the game, but we will be doing this year after year (hopefully for many years), so there will be plenty of opportunity to get together again!
Looking forward to next years' game!

Might not have been the best decision I've made considering how I feel this morning but I had to suit up for this one. Definitely a good time. It was great to see everyone and chuck the potato around 1 more time but the body has said enough. I want to thank John Reel for allowing me to be a part of this league for the last 23 +- years. It's been a blast and I've met some great people along the way. I know John's day will come where he'll step aside as well. After spending countless hours over the past 25 plus years developing this league into one of the top 5 oldest leagues in the country I just hope the next person who takes the reigns does it with the same respect and integrity as John has.
Regretfully, I was one of the MIA Marlins who missed the reunion with my fellow baseball brothers on Sunday. And now that I learn that Crafty, a year older than me, was able to drag his aching bones to the field makes me feel even worse. Seems the ER people in town feel that passing kidney stones is common, and some of the nurses even compared it to having a baby. I have no previous experience in the latter, but I can tell you that after waiting four days to have this ''baby,'' Im ready for a C-section. Hope I dont have to wait another year for a rain-check on one of those infamous cooler sessions. This melded family of Marlins and Cubs that Reel, McQuade and Girard have kept going over the years is a real special group of warriors. They play, and celebrate, as hard as any group Ive ever suited up with. Until next time...

Hey Tim! Sorry to hear you're a little under the weather. Would've loved to see you there. Me whining about a couple of muscle aches doesn't compare to your issues. As the saying goes.. "all good things must pass" so should a couple of bad ones too. Hope you feel better buddy.
