Who wants to play baseball on Sunday, July 5th? I do! I do!

A few weeks ago there was a post on this board calling for a draft to provide more competitive games in our league. As an alternative I suggested that we organize pick up games on the days that the league does not schedule regular games. Pat Alston commented that he liked my idea. So with Pat's endorsement (and today's rain outs) I'm going to give the idea a go. Here are some details:

We will play a nine-inning game beginning at 2:00 PM
Teams will be limited to 12 players. Get your reservations in early! If we have enough of a response, we have the flexibility to schedule a second game.
Players must be 40+; pitchers must be 45+. If you don't meet that qualification, I suggest lying about your age. This is America!
Two managers will do their best to select evenly matched teams.
All players will bat and equal playing time in the field will be encouraged.
We are waiting to confirm the availability of the New Scotland field. A very nice high school field is available as plan B.
There will be umpires arranged through the league.

The cost per player will be $10.00. Cash payments only.
That fee will also get you two Hoffman hotdogs cooked to perfection. Players are encouraged to bring some post-game snacks and beverages.

If you are interested, please send me your name, age, preferred positions and let me know if you are willing to manage a team. My email address is dballjr@nycap.rr.com. You can text me at 366-5531.

I am really hoping this works because I would like to extend the idea to additional days next season. Thank you.

Sure...players can respond on the bulletin board if that's easier. Please include the information regarding your playing preferences. You can even talk some smack if you want to generate some excitement!

While I have your attention, we have confirmed that the game will be played at New Scotland. Even better, the forecast for Sunday is sunny and mid-80s.

So join the gang that has already signed up and let's play some baseball. We have about a dozen spots left.
