First things first...........it's getting to the point where playing against a bunch of old (key word now being OLD) friends and familiar faces are as big a part of the games themselves. Always fun competition against the Cubs.
Ron Massaroni threw a really effective complete game against a very good hitting lineup on saturday. Even though Bobby Davis had like 9 hits in 3 at bats on Saturday, we kept him and the powerful Cubs in the park ........a day at satellite with the wind blowing out. A true miracle.
The final score was 6-1. The Cubs put the ball in play in the 4th inning with the bases loaded......Giants made three costly errors. Our team mantra, Pitching & Defense .........we only executed half of the equation. Cudos to the Cubs for pressing our defense.
The story.........Massaroni was the man! Bobby Davis scares me when he swings a bat ! The Giants did not look like a playoff contending team on Saturday.

Pitching was awesome on both sides. The only run that the Giants could muster against Ron Massaroni came in the 3rd inning, when Steve Lounello beat out a slow roller to short, moved into scoring position on a ground out to first, and scored on a bloop single by Mike Labanowski. The Cubs put 5 runs on the board in the 4th inning by grouping 4 of their 5 hits on the day in the inning, and getting a little help from the Giants defense. The 6th run came in the top of the 7th, on a Bobby Davis single, a Dave Mitchell walk, and an error on a little pop up, by Chris Dunn, behind the pitchers mound. Other than that, the pitchers were in complete control all game long. Ron Massaroni gave up just four singles all game, walking none, and striking out 2. Steve Lounello, Mike Kane, and Joey Burns were nearly as effective, giving up just 5 singles, and 2 walks, while striking out 7.
I agree with Steve, this game was a lot of fun, playing with old friends, former teammates, and just quality ball players and good people. Can't wait to do it again!
