The Whiz Kids and Yankees started the holiday weekend with a ball game Friday night, with the Whiz Kids prevailing 10-7. Jesse Braverman (3-3, 3 runs, 2 SB in the leadoff position) and John Cortese (2-2, 1 run, 1 walk, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 1 SB) made their season debuts. Chris Abrams (2-1) got the win, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) over 6 innings. He re-entered with 1 out in the 7th to record the final 2 outs. Dennis Buckley and Reggie Flansburg had 2 RBI each to help the Whiz stretch their lead to 10-3 after 6. The Yankees never quit, and after 4 walks, a hit, and an error made it 10-7, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, Abrams got the batter to hit into a force out. Joe Hervieux led the Yankee attack (3-4, 1 run, 2 RBI). Congrats to manager Ray Demers and the rest of the Yankees on a good game.
