This is a reminder to you and your players. Free agents need to send me their intentions for free agency by October 31st. This is the open period for free agency with no need for a release from their current team. After the 31st, they will need to be released by their current team.
It will be best that requests are sent to me at jtk4044 at yahoo.com and not on the website.
If a player declares free agency and notifies you, do you notify team managers of the player's availability? Are there any limitations as to which team he can move to or is it merely a matter of finding an agreeable team? Is there any public forum for knowing who is moving and to where or is all this done privately?

I can answer most of this Curt.
Basically any player can declare free agency between the end of the season and October 31 by notifying their manager and i believe technically they need to notify the commissioner also. At that point they are free to go anywhere they want.
There is no process to notify the managers.
There is a spot on the website to list yourself as a free agent and obviously any player can contact any manager and vice versa.
It is still possible to leave a team after 10/31 but the manager / GM must approve it.

Thanks, John. That's pretty much what I thought. You may have noticed that I like to be "in the know" with what's going on in the league (and I figure others might too). I guess if I want to know who's moving and who's staying, I'll either have to sleuth it out or just wait 'til rosters appear in the Spring .

I'm sure most people want to know what is going on / who is moving where but if you think of the logistics of keeping track of and posting all of that it would be a lot of work and wouldn't really accomplish anything.
This will be an interesting year with some major change as the Cubs move up from the 35's and the Reds fold.
