The Royals and Giants played Sunday on a perfect day for ball at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown.
After just one inning it was clear that it wasn't our day . The Giants batted first and Bob Bolt led off with a blooper over the third baseman's head that landed just fair. The next two batters got out and then the cleanup hitter strikes out, the ball gets away from the catcher and the throw to first was over the 1st baseman's head as well as my head backing up the throw allowing the batter to end up on third and score as well on a single by the next batter.
We start off the bottom of the first with two singles and a walk to load the bases with no outs. A sacrifice fly scored a run and the next batter scorched a one hopper to the shortstop for a double play. So after that inning it was Giants 2, Royals 1 and the Giants would never relinquish that lead in route to an 8-4 victory in 7 innings.
The Giants played Giant baseball and hit the ball hard as they always do and played solid defense. Royals cut into the deficit a couple of times but the Giants always responded with a couple of runs.
I will let Steve fill in the details of his teams offense since i don't have the book.... hopefully he doesn't include the offensive accomplishments of the Giants in the 8th inning exhibition because we would be reading through the end of our playoffs!
