Game one at New Scotland saw the Golden Marlins jump out to a quick 6-0 lead after 2 innings, then add 4 runs in the 4th and 9 in the 5th for a 18-0 win over the Braves. Jerry Solomon kept the Braves bats quiet all day as he gave up just two singles and two walks, while striking out 4 in the complete game shutout win. All twelve spots in the Marlin's batting order had at least one hit for the Fish as they pounded out 18 hits in just 5 innings. Randy Craft had a 3-run home run, and Mike Girard added a 2-run homer, a single and 4 RBI's. Ron Lochner, Mike Clary, Billy Smith, and Jim McQuade all had two hits for the Fish. Mark Trinchillo and Steve Schaefer had the singles for the Braves.
Game two of the double header again had the Marlins jumping out to an early lead (this time 6-2 after two innings). The Fish added 2 in the top of the 3rd, to make it 8-2, but the Shasky's rallied in the bottom of the inning for 3 runs (to close to 8-5), and had runners on first and third with nobody out, before the Marlin's reliever came on to get the next 3 Shasky's in order without allowing any more runs to score. The Golden Marlins then added 3 in the 4th and 7 in the 5th to plate 18 runs for the second game in a row. Tom Maney led the way with a 4 for 4 performance in the lead off spot, scoring all 4 times. Mike Girard added his second home run of the day (a grand slam in the 5th) while going 3 for 3, with 3 runs and 5 RBI's. Tim Brown was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 RBI's. Randy Craft pitched two effective innings, as did Billy Smith for the Marlins. Harvey Staulter and Ed Bitner led the offense for the Shasky's with two hits each. The Shaskys pushed across 6 runs in the 18-6 loss and showed great heart, in never giving up until the last out was recorded.
The Golden Marlins improved to 5-8 with the two victories and look to keep the momentum going as the playoffs approach.
