In an incredibly dominant pitching performance, Chris Abrams limited the usually potent Damn Yankees lineup to just one hit and faced just three batters over the minimum in leading the Whiz Kids to an impressive 2-0 win on Tuesday night at Central Park C Diamond.
Abrams struck out six and walked two batters, mixing a slow curve with a high fastball that the Yankees couldnt lay off. Only two batters managed to square up his pitches, and they both found the leather of his teammates. Mike Eplite roped a liner to third that was snared by Mike Labanowski and Mark Tryon drove a deep drive to left center that was run down by Harry Fergeson. Mike Aiello got the only hit of the game for the Yankees with a flare over shortstop in the second inning. No Yankee runner reached third base, as the Whiz Kids committed just one error. Brian Musella turned in a strong game behind the plate, throwing out one runner attempting to steal, and picking off another at first base.
John Weber was also on impressive on the mound tonight, as he scattered six hits, walked none and struck out two. He deserved a better fate, but two unearned runs in the first inning were all Abrams needed to give the Whiz Kids their fourth win in seven games. Weber looked like he might escape the first inning unscathed after a double play, but Labanowski followed with a clutch two-out single to left to plate the first run o f the game, and a third Yankees error in the inning plated the second run. It was the first loss of the season for the Yankees (5-1), who hope to rebound on Thursday against the Marlins.
Hats off to Jim Porter and his Whiz Kids, who have assembled a team ready to challenge for the 55s crown.

Great job Chris and Whiz! Chris has always been one of the under-rated pitchers in our league. When he's on, he will do to any team what he did to the Yanks. And he's on way more than he's not. Good to see Harry Ferguson back on the field, too. Always a quality player and person. Nice work, Whiz! jimk
Tim, Thanks for the post. Always a tough game vs. the Yankees. John Weber is one of the best. One correction, it was Jesse Braverman who made the great running catch in center. Also, Joe Fusaro followed Labanowski's 2-out rbi single with one of his own. Good luck to the Yankees the rest of the way. Jim Porter-Whiz Kids
