When driving into or out of the complex, please drive slowly. The dust from the road is horrible not to mention kicking up stones that somewhat become ballistics.
Rightfully so, players from one of the 45 teams along the third-base line stood in the road to slow down drivers and asked if we could do anything about it. I know not all traffic is from our league and its players/fans, but if you are entering the complex and there is a game before yours or you see soccer players, please slow down.
I'm hoping that we can somehow get the word to the soccer/lacrosse people as well or even get a 5 MPH sign put up.
All I have to say is that it is no one from our league. It is the parents of the kids and even kid themselves. Nothing pisses me off more than people bitching about us but can't control themselves enough to be respectfully to anyone else. Who is going to make the phone call to the school or do we deal with it.
one solution might be to put up a series of signs on either side of the driveway.
one could say, aptly for all the ages there: "drive slowly, children playing"
we could also put up posted speed limit signs - say 5 or 10 mph.
another sign could say, "if you're creating dust clouds as you drive, you're going way too fast."
another could say: "slow down: this is not talledega."
a final one could say: "if you drove slowly, hats off to you. if not, shame on you."
so the league could make some lemonade out of lemons here. we could could work with the district or town to get the signs approved, pay for them and put them up. the bottom line, in smaller print on each sign, could say: "donated by the capital district men's senior baseball league."
i don't like boasting for any good works we do, but if people are bad-mouthing us, the signs could go a long way toward showing our commitment to things - like careful driving - that they too value.
I guess this post wont be popular guys but how much money is the league going to put in to Satelite Field? It really doesnt play well with bad hops galore etc.... Paying for signage seems like something the School or the Soccer Program (where they were speeding off to and from) should be paying at this point. This is about a simple question? How much are we going to spend at Satelite Field? Maybe I am missing something? Is it cheap price wise compared to others? Is it free?

I don't believe that any of this info is confidential and i don't know exact numbers anyway but i am sure i am not out of line saying that Satellite is a bargain to say the least. We pay for the season there and the per game price is extremely reasonable.
On Sunday i watched a long time member of our league driving in way too fast .... he has been around the league long enough to know better. Fortunately there were no other groups there on Sunday except for a group down at the soccer fields and i doubt they noticed.
Field availability is one of the biggest issues we face and losing a field like Satellite would be a big loss to the 45's and 55's.
As always if anyone has a line on any other fields in the area we are always interested so please notify a board member or commissioner or your manager and we will take a look.
I, for one, would like the school district to put up the signage or install speed bumps. Ideally, how about the district pave the road? We are tenants, not owners. And John Corrigan is right, one of our own CDMSBL players drove thru as though they were at the Daytona 500. But there were also several drivers not associated with our league that were kickin' up a dust storm. Point is, until we can get the word out to all people who use the complex, we need to police ourselves first. Breathing all that dust in is not healthy. Thnx to all. jk
