45 Blue Jays Beat Pirates

I'm sometimes reluctant to write these game reports because I'm not a manager, don't have the scorebook to confirm details, and still don't know that many of our opponents well enough to acknowledge them properly. But I appreciate reading game reports from other games, so perhaps there are others out there that enjoy knowing what happened in ours, and my reluctance rarely stops me anyway, so here goes:

After a 3-0 start, the 45 Blue Jays dropped the next three against tough opponents. On a beautiful June morning at New Scotland, the Jays hoped to start a new win streak against the expansion Pirates. The Pirates struck first with a run in the first off Blue Jays starter Rich Garbarino, but the Jays scored two in the bottom of the frame on a 2-RBI single by Mike Surin. The Jays added three in the second, keyed by a 2-out, 2-RBI double by Curt Tucker. And so the game proceeded, with strong pitching by Garbarino, solid Blue Jays defense, and continued scoring by the Blue Jays, including a nice 2-RBI base hit by Paul Post and multiple productive at-bats by Bob Noto, Artie Gianakos, and probably others that I'm forgetting. The Pirates pushed a second run across somewhere along the way, but the Blue Jays earned an 11-2 victory, with skipper Artie Gianakos pitching a scoreless 7th inning to finish things. It was a nice solid team win to make the Blue Jays 4-3 and the Pirates 0-5, with the latter quickly re-grouping for the second game of a doubleheader against the Cyclones.

Good report Curt. You are correct----people do like to see results of games posted on the bulletin board soon after they are played. Baseball guys are like that.
