In a darkness-shortened six inning game the Damn Yankees subdued the Hawks. The game began with the Yanks jumping out to a 6-2 lead after two innings. The Hawks rallied in the third inning with some timely hits and a few Yanks miscues to score 5 runs and close to 8-7. After another quick two innings the score was 9-7. In the top of the sixth inning the Hawks returned some of the Yanks' third inning favors with a couple of errors and the Yanks added a couple of hits to run the score to 14-7. In the bottom of the inning the Hawks put together three hits and a walk to plate three more runs to make the final score 14-10. The leading hitters for the Damn Yankees were Aiello, Van Gelder, and Weber (who also pitched well in relief). Jim Hayden and Andy Buchan led the Hawks hitters.
I would like to add a word here about the excellent condition that the field was in due to the work of Jim Konstantakis. This allowed us to play even though it had rained Tuesday night and Wednesday was damp and overcast. We should really try to make every effort to be sure that we can continue to use this field as, over the last two years, it has become a very nice field.
