Anthony Torre hit a 2-out game winning single in the bottom of the 7th to drive in Jesse Braverman, and the Whiz Kids beat the Marlins 6-5 Monday night. Dennis Buckley (WP 1-0) threw 3 innings, allowing just 1 run in relief of Joe Fusaro. The Whiz Kids scored 4 times in the bottom of the 1st. Harry Ferguson led off the inning with a walk, stole 2nd and 3rd, and scored on a single by Brian Musella. Mike Labanowski followed a single by Reggie Flansburg with a single of his own to drive in Musella. Braverman followed with a single to plate Flansburg, and Labanowski scored on a fielder's choice by Porter. The Marlins came back with 3 in the 3rd on a walk to John Reel, singles by Frank Pino and Dave Gadomski, followed by 2 bases loaded walks and an error. They tied it in the 4th on a walk by Chuck Sohl, a stolen base from runner Bill Pelton, and a single by Chuck Stanley. The Whiz Kids went back in front 5-4 in the bottom of the frame. Fusaro singled, runner Labanowski stole 2nd, and Braverman had his second RBI single of the game. Marlins tied it again in the 6th as Jim Gedney hits a 1-out single, and scores on a 2-out single by Wayne Newcomb. That set the stage for Torre's heroics in the 7th.
