No way that's the best TV ..... that title is reserved for next Sunday with the return of "Wicked Tuna" which chronicles a number of boats out of Gloucester in search of Giant Bluefin Tuna which reach weights of over 1,000 pounds!
This one was 150 pounds or so ...... i still remember the mate saying "you're in the 12th round of a title fight buddy ...... and you are getting your butt kicked"
Well Jimmy, I'm dating myself but as a 16 year old and living in Northern NJ there was a DJ by the name of Maury The K who was the top DJ for Rock n Roll in the Metropolitan area and was responsible for bringing the Beatles to America. I remember watching on TV their arrival at the airport and all the crazy girls screaming and crying. They called them the king of Rock n Roll but to me and many others Elvis was the King at that time.
much ado about the dos. I saw the show. new and first black and white TV that previous fall of '63. I recall the adult talk was about letting these brats on the revered Ed Sullivan Show and then not even hearing them over the screams. much later we learned these guys were talented. and they rode the 60's like no one else. From "I want to hold you hand" all the way to, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. jreel Oak Grove Elem. San Antonio Tx. 1962-1967.
I just think it's great that Art's dating himself. He finally found someone he idolizes. He told me he took himself to dinner and a movie the other night and later had quite a romantic evening.
like john, i remember the day, the night clearly. sunday, feb. 9, 1964 in elmira, ny - only spots of snow on ground, temperatures in the high 20s, clear, brisk night, my friends rick and sy and i watched the beatles on ed sullivan's show at rick's house. we were 16. the beatles were young and fresh and had an energy that sent a charge to the 250 or so screaming fans in that new york city theater and from there to elmira, to san antonio and i'm sure to the rest of the country. i remember the beatles did five songs over two sets, finishing with the best song of the night, "i want to hold your hand." people went nuts during and after that song. you can still see it on youtube.
i remember all that clearly because right afterwards sy said, "so, mike, where are you going to college?" i was a working class kid. i hadn't thought about college. they said they'd both already sent applications to the colleges they hoped to go to - rick to cortland state, sy to buffalo state. then, rick said, "here, i have an extra application to cortland. want it?" that's how i chose my college.
the beatles did it.

Artie is being a little modest...he was actually at the theater that night...and a little known fact, he had filled in for Harrison, who had the flu during rehearsals.. Artie is sometimes known as the "6th Beatle" and gets together with Best quite often..He told me once, in a rare moment of pompous grandeur, that he could have made it with the Beatles...if he hadn't pulled a hammy...!!!
I saw the show in our living room with my Mom , brother and 17 year old sister screaming every time the Beatles appeared on the screen or were even mentioned. I was young but I knew I liked Rock nRoll but for the life of me I couldn't figure out why all those girls kept screaming. The Beatles headed the British Invasion and it most certainly cheered up a Nation that was still in shock from losing a young President a little over 2 months prior. As you remember in most households there were only 2 or maybe 3 visible channels and all eyes were glued to the TV for what seemed like weeks watching that poor man's family being followed and constantly photographed. The motorcade, grassy knoll , L.H. Oswald, Jack Ruby . John Boy saluting the casket. What would LBJ do with Vietnam?. We were horrified and enthralled all at once. No internet, no cell phones, no remote control. That little Black & White TV was the way we kept in touch with the world.
The Beatles were The Fab Four!

While I was alittle too young to remember the original show,I did watch the annivisary show.Great show but I had to flip over to my favorite (most watched cable series ever) The Walking Dead.Although it doesn't compare with the greatest roll n roll band ever,I felt somewhat less guilty cuz I swear I seen the Rolling Stones limping around with the rest of the zombies.
