The Reds won game 2, 5-1 to complete the sweep of the Shaskys. Joe Burns was the winner, going 6 shutout innings, before giving way to Ron Massaroni to start the 7th. The Reds scored 2 in the 1st and 3rd and 1 in the 6th, off Shasky starter Jim Tesererio. Jim Pitched a great game and kept the Shasky's in it all day. For the Reds, Burns, Davis, Careccia and Massaroni had 2 his each. The Reds look to avenge their semi final defeat at the hands of the Giants last year, taking on those same Giants next weekend.
Congratulations to the Reds as they enter the final four in this year's playoffs. The Shaskys got solid pitching from Dennis Lane and Jim Tesereiro and two strong defensive games but we could not match the performance of an excellent Reds team. Between Reds' pitchers Chris Dunn on Saturday and Joe Burns on Sunday, the Shasky batters spent most of the weekend behind in the count and shaking our heads. And even though we picked off two base stealers and three runners trying to score, the Reds got the timely hitting they needed to produce runs. The Shaskys enjoyed the challenge and the experience of playing against a top notch team and against a group of most respectable men.
We'll take our twelve-win season into the hot stove league and see what it will take to get ready for next season.
Another special thank you to Jimmy K who was at the satellite field before any players to prep the field for our game (Jimmy's Giants were idle today). Please watch for Jimmy's messages for help with field improvements and give of your time the way Jimmy gives of his.
Congratulations on a fine season Donnie...Tony has continued to improve that team each and every season, from back in the 35's to now...classy group of guys as well.
