As typical of a hard fought series with outstanding pitching and defense from both teams the BlueJays defeated the BlackSox 5-2 behind the outstanding pitching of Mike Surin to advance to the next round. The game featured some great shotstop play from Mike Aiello throughout the series as well as some outstanding plays from the rest of the team. Add that with some timely hitting and we were able to pull out the victory. By the way Mike Surin also had some timely hits as well. Great team effort! The BlackSox had some big hits throughout the series but Mike Lennox wore us down with his hitting.
Now we have the formidable task of taking on the outstanding team the New York Giants. These BlueJays have never lied down or quit and we look forward to the challenge ahead.
Don and the BlackSox it was a great series and on your team I've known those guys for many years and a better bunch of guys you won't find anywhere. See you next spring and have a great winter and holidays.
Congratulations to Bob Hiller and his Blue Jays squad. They played errorless ball for 3 straight games, which is remarkable. Rich Gabarino pitched a stellar 1st game scattering 8 hits but allowing only 1 run. The Sox got their bats working in the 2nd game to come away with a 10-1 win. Sunday morning at NS the Sox got out to a 2-0 lead. The Jays plated 1 in the 2nd, and with some Sox errors the Jays tied it at 2 in the 3rd. It remained tied until the Jays, with some hits and Sox errors, scored 2 in the 6th and 2 more in the 7th. Mike Surin pitched a helluva game for the Jays. Many Blue Jays have been teammates of mine over the years, with different teams and different divisions, and tho I hate to lose I didn't mind wishing the best to Rich G., Mike Aiello, Bob Noto, Artie G., Dave Plew and current 55 teammate Scott Ross, and the other Jays players. They are a team of very good ballplayers but more than that they are men of high character. I wish them good fortune as they continue into the semi's. In conclusion, I wish to give props to my pitching staff, who performances were outstanding. John Pologa pitched a 2 hitter in the first game, yet ended up the tough luck loser 2-1. Jerry Solomon was overpowering in the 2nd game and came back to get the final 2 outs of our final game of 2013. Greg Hoin pitched with guile and had we been able to field the ball could very well of been the winning pitcher in the final game. Well, until next year good luck to all the remaining teams in the playoffs, and the Black Sox are looking forward to next year.
