It all comes down to tonight's game to see whether he Cubs or the Padres makes it to the Final Four in the 35+ division. Game one was won by the Padres 7-4, behind the spectacular pitching of Jerry Solomon. Jerry limited the Cubs line-up to just one single through 5 complete innings. It was 7-0 Padres before the Cubs bats woke up in the bottom of the sixth. The Cubs had one run across and the bases loaded with one out and the top of the order coming to the plate, when the Padres decided to bring in Pete Maralja in relief. Pete induced an infield pop up and a lazy fly ball to left, and the threat was over. The Cubs scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th, but were unable to get even, and the Padres won game one 7-4. Josh Whipple had a double and single to lead the Padres and Dom LiBlasi added two singles. Shawn Maney and Dave Mitchell had two hits each for the Cubs.
It was all Cubs in game two, as Chris Dunn scattered 3 singles, 1 HBP, and 1 BB, while striking out 3, in 4 innings of shut out work. Randy Craft came on to pitch a scoreless 5th inning, and the Cubs won game two 13 - 0. The Cubbies used 11 hits, 10 walks, 1 HBP and 4 Padre errors to win this one in a rout. Mike Girard, Phil Gadomski, and Jim McQuade all had two hits each for the winners. The Padres were only able to manage 4 singles, 1 BB, and 1 HBP, as the Cubs were able to play a clean game defensively, in support of their pitching.
Game three is Friday night at Rogowicz, starting at 5:45 pm, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals, and the loser ending their 2013 season. It should be intense!
