It didn't look good for any baseball to be played on Sunday, but the Golden Marlins and Blue Jays braved the rain for most of their 9:00 am game at the C-Diamond, and the rain took a break for the 11:45 am game just long enough for the Marlins - Cougars game. Artie, you owe me an apology!
The Blue Jays struck early, in the top half of the first, with a single and a stolen base by Scott Ross, a Marlin error, and a bunt single by Daryl Hunt, who advanced all of the way to third on an infield ground out, and then stole home, giving the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead. The Marlins answered immediately, in the bottom half of the inning, with 3 consecutive singles by Tim Brown, Mike Girard, and Mike Ferraro, with stolen bases by Brown and Ferraro, and a wild pitch that plated the tying run. The Marlins would take a 3-2 lead, in the bottom of the 2nd inning, with a lead off single by Phil Gadomski; a single by John Reel; and a 2-out RBI single by Dave Mitchell. The Blue Jays tied the game at 3, in the top of the third. The Blue Jays loaded the bases with a 1-out walk by Bornwick (name not on roster); and consecutive singles by Greco (name not on roster) and Ross. Paul Post plated the tying run with a RBI fielders choice to short. The Marlins threatened in the 3rd and 4th innings, but could not push across a run. The game would remain tied at 3 until the bottom of the 6th inning. Jim McQuade hit a 1-out double, and Phil Gadomski singled him home with 2 outs, giving the Marlins a slim 1-run lead. Daryl Hunt started off the top of the 7th with a single. A ground out to 2nd, advanced him to second, a fly ball to short center field was dropped and the Jays had runners at 1st and 3rd, with just 1 out. Phil Gadomski then got a ground ball to short, and the Marlins turned a clutch double play to end the game. The Marlins out hit the Blue Jays 13 to 7 in the game, but needed that double play to avoid a bottom of the 7th or extra innings. Hats off to the Blue Jays for such a hard fought contest. Phil Gadomski scattered 7 hits and one walk, while striking out 1 in his complete game victory. Mash has been battling the lingering effects of Lyme disease and is working his way back into form. He was the main reason that this game didn't end up as a win in the Blue Jays column.
The second game of the day, saw the Golden Marlins beating the Cougars 12-0, behind the pitching of Marlins' starter Jim Ansel. Jim pitched 3 perfect innings to start the game, which gave the Marlins time to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Jim gave up just a 1-out double to Eric Sundwall, in the 4th inning, and the Marlins stretched their advantage to 7-0. The Cougar collected 3 one-out singles (Tom Japour, Mike Barton, and Ron McComb) in the 5th, but Jim got a strike out of Frank Montagno with the bases loaded and then induced a lazy fly ball to center to end the threat, with his shut out still intact. The Fish used the momentum to advance their lead to 12-0, entering the bottom of the 6th. Mike Girard came on in relief, and faced the minimum in preserving the shut out. John Reel was 3 for 3 in the game and 5 for 5 on the day. Tim Brown and Mike Ferraro also had 3 hits each. Tommie Smith added two hits for the Marlins. The Cougars were only able to muster 4 singles and a double against Gadomski.
The Golden Marlins improve to 6 - 6 on the year, and face a tough stretch run in the month of August. The next 4 weeks will show whether the defending champs have enough to make a run at repeating, after a tough start to the year.

How many games have these two played? Freeze date for rosters was July 1. If they didn't have their forms signed and turned in before then, they are illegal players and the team is subject to sanctions per rules posted on our Web site.
We can't have players put the league at-risk for not signing waiver/registration forms. Plus the COC form needs to be read and initialized. CDMSBL has an insurance carrier and it isn't cheap. This is a formal process that needs to be done every year.
The Blue Jays GM needs to get in touch with John Reel immediately.
And whoever DP is, the facts are one is legal, one is not, according to league office. My concern has always been for the league at-large, especially when it comes to liability issues.
Jim, this can get out of hand like some posts before, no need for anymore bad publicity. Just asking to handle things out of the public eye.
Check with Mr. Reel, both are on the roster.. Dave
Gentlemen, John has had the information since before the first of July. What makes either of you think that I would play ineligible guys when the league president is in the other dugout,I am kind of insulted that you think I am that stupid ,please get your facts straight before you start accusing me of breaking the rules. The website is not the official roster list, you can ask John.
Whoa Bob. I didn't accuse you of anything. I just like to use first names when writing my posts, and there were no names for those guys on your BB roster, so I just put that in the brackets next to their last names, as an explanation as to why the first names weren't included. You will know quite plainly when I am accusing you of something. This wasn't it.
I believe that John Reel is the reincarnation of that spry old elf, father christmas. Therefore,I am not suprised at the perfect day with the stick, as it is the same one he uses to beat the riendeer with. Good show .
Sorry Bob, I didn't mean for it to sound accusatory, which I can see now that it could have been construed that way. This has been a big issue with the league for several years now and as a Board member, we all have concerns about liability. Believe it or not, there are full teams who haven't turned in paperwork and many other teams who don't have all of it in. John Reel is doing yeoumans work to get it all computerized. MSBL National also goes after John because the registration forms are not all in. One year at least, we were the last MSBL chapter in the country to have it all in. And Sigler let John hear about it.
This is a legal process. We are a not-for-profit entity registered with the IRS. Insurance and waiver forms are a part of this process. I realize the Web site is not the official team roster for anyone, but if each team GM checked it against the paperwork it would make all of our jobs easier and take away any trepidation about illegal players being injured.
