In the 8:15 game at Bob Moore last night, the Cubs got 12 runs on 11 hits, while the Yanks put up 10 runs on 9 hits.
The game was just a 3-1 ball game (Cubs leading) through 3 complete innings, but both teams would hang big numbers on the board in the 4th. The Yanks would take the lead 7-3 by scoring 6 times in the inning on 4 hits (Lex Herlett/double; J.J. Janetsky/single; Heath Zimolta/single; and Tito Lopez double), two walks, and an untimely Cubs error.
The Cubs would answer right back with 7 runs of their own, utilizing 4 hits (Booby Lane/single; Mike Girard/single; Mike Ferraro/single; and Dan Hernandez/double) along with 3 Yankee errors.
With the score Cubs 10 and the Yanks 7 entering the top of the 7th, the Cubs brought on Ron Massaroni to close things out, but the Yanks roughed up Massaroni for 3 runs on a single by Tom Bradley, a 1-out RBI double by Eric Duemler, a walk, and a 2-out 2-run double by Kelly, that tied the game at 10.
In the bottom of the 5th, the Cubs got single by Tom Maney and Ron Massaroni to open the inning, and both runners moved up when the right fielder misplayed the ball. After Ed Powell got the first out on a grounder to short, Tom Maney scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch. Dan Hernandez then walked and stole second. Jim McQuade followed by plating an important insurance run on a sacrafice fly.
Both teams would go down in the 6th inning without a run, and that would be the ball game, as the game was ended by the curfew at 10:30 pm. The Cubs improve to 7-1 with the win and next play on Thursday night at Schenectady Babe Ruth against the Rays.
