The 55+ Division kicked off its season on Monday at the satellite field on a raw and windy afternoon. The 2-time champion Cardinals played the WhizKids in a rematch of last year's finals. Jim Konstantakis went 6 strong innings, and Billy Smith had 4 RBI to lead the WhizKids to victory. Konstantakis (1-0) gave up a leadoff single to Bob Yakatan, who promptly stole second and scored on a single by Earl Mitchell. That would be all the Cards would get as Konstantakis allowed only 2 more hits the rest of the game. In the bottom half of the inning, Tom Maney (3 for 3) singled, stole second, moved to third on a single by Mike Lannon, and scored on a groundout by Smith. Lannon later scored on an error to put the WhizKids up 2-1. They added 3 more in the third on singles by Maney, Darrell Duncan, Lannon, Smith, a walk to Jerry Solomon, and a single by Dave Palmer. The WhizKids finished the scoring with a 7-run 4th on RBI from Maney, Duncan, Smith (2), and Anthony Torre. Thanks to Jerry Hawkins and the rest of the Cardinals for making the trek to Voorheesville. The 2 teams play each other 2 more times during the regular season. Jim Porter-WhizKids
