The Cubs kicked off the 2013 35+ season in style, with a 9-1 win over the Pirates Friday night at the Satellite field in Voorheesville.
Phil Gadomski went 7 strong innings, tossing a complete game 3-hitter, giving up just one unearned run in the 7th inning, while striking out 4 and walking only two. Mash had a no-hitter until a one out single in the bottom of the fifth.
The Cubs meanwhile, pounded out 12 hits against Pirates starter Mike Kane. Mike Girard led the attack with a 3 for 4, 2 RBI, 2 runs, and 1 stolen base night. Randy Craft drove in the first two Cubs runs with singles in the first and third innings. Andy Hoyle, Phil Gadomski, and Jim McQuade all had two hits each for the Cubs.
