that's don dunham and john kalinski, who'll be inducted into the league's hall of fame at our march 30th banquet at the american legion post in delmar, and everyone else, the players, umps or fans, who've been a part of the league for as short a time as even one season:
we need your quotes.
meaning? some of you may know that we plan to hang large photos, on thick glossy paper, along one or more of the post's dining room walls. so far, we've gotten about 300 images from many in the league who've been kind enough to email them to us.
but we want to do more. we'd like to post as well, also on glossy paper, large-sized quotes from players, umps and fans to put between the photos. the quotes would come from answers that these people would give replying to one, two or all three of these questions:
1. what's the lure of baseball for you? your reply can be a broad one, referring to baseball as a national game or specifically, to playing, working or cheering here in cdmsbl.
2. what's the funniest moment you can recall in your days in cdmsbl?
3. cdmsbl is unique and different from other leagues, yet it probably has similarities with other leagues, too. so what do you like about playing in cdmsbl? what's special about the league for you?
we'd ask that your replies be short as you can make them, and understand that for space reasons, even short replies may have to be cut some. the replies don't have to be polished prose; simple sentences straight from the heart will do just fine.
and again, while we'd like everybody who can take a minute to reply, we'd especially like players who've been around awhile, like john reel, artie gianakos, dennis scimeca, mike girard, tom maney, bill kervan, pete westfall and don ball, to take on one or more of the above questions.
if you could send your replies to me at mhart2@nycap.rr.com by march 20th, the banquet committee would be very grateful.
thanks, everyone.
-mike

the truth, the whole truth and sadly, nothin but the truth. "You look good in your uniforms", by Sue Caputo encouraging the 0-12, 1991 Belmonts Cafe team. jreel said mgr.
Then 75 year old "Red", camping under an infield pop while playing second base for the Braves down in Bethlehem. I watched from bump as the ball came down, bounced off the top of Red's head, and landed gently in the glove of our 1st baseman!! I can still see Red twirling all around to see where the ball was, not knowing he had picked up an assist.....
I think the best one was when we went over to Sutters after a game at UAlbany and Ron had let Curt Coons borrow Josh's pants for the game and right there in the bar, Curt took them off and gave them back to ron and just stood there with his jersey on:)
