I just want to pass on this information to the guys going to AZ this weekend. Some of you guys know I had a sight problem last Sunday at fall ball. It's worse that I expected. I have three major rips in the retina of my right eye. I will undergo ER surgery Thur. to try and reapair some of it. Total eyesight is pretty much a thing of the past after this surgery. Time will tell if I can play again in 2013. To my teammates going west, knock um dead , and have a great time.
Best wishes and good thoughts for you on the surgery on Thursday. My hopes are with you for a full recovery and that we all see you back on the field as soon as possible.
Harold, Sorry to hear of your injury. Knowing the competitor that you are, I'm sure you will do all that you can in order to make it right again. Here's to a speedy and complete recovery. Jim Porter
I would like to thank you all for your support and kind words. The injury is a complete mystery to me. Last Thur. I had a tiny bit of pressure under the eye, and I was given antbiotics for an infection. Sat. I woke up with only sight in part of the eye.Right now I can only see about 1/4 out of the right side. The Dr. says that total eye sight will probably be out of the question, but you never know. I go to the retina specialist today at 4pm to get all of the details.
Ok, Just got back from seeing{ha ha} the retina surgeon. He is going to try and repair the eye Thur. afternoon. He says ,if it goes as planned ,I should regain 90% of my vision. I have 2 rips{detached retina}and a large hole in the Macula{the main body of the eye}I asked him about playing ball in 2013, and he said ,if it goes well I will be able to return and play. That made me happy as hell. I will update when I get home from the hospital,Thur.night or Friday.
First of all,I would like to thank everyone for the well wishes and kind words.Second,My eye sight has not returned to this point.I go Tue. AM for my 1st. follow up with the Dr. Regaining my sight will take soom time so I am told.OK, a tip for all, If you have any trouble with your eyes, please have someone check them . Floaters in the eyes are common and should be checked. I have heard some guys talking about them on the field. They can lead to what happened to me.As we get older, the material in the eyes starts to dry and break away.If they break away too much, the retina will become detached, and sometimes worse like in my case. So, all you guys 45+ get your vision checked on a yearly basis.Early detection is a must.
