Kudos to Tommy Smith who sacrificed his front windshield today to the baseball gods to ensure a successful first day to the tourney!
Having been associated with this league since 1995 and involved with most of the last ten tourneys (one or two as a player and many as an umpire) it looks like so far so good! With sketchy team commitments and last minute additions (good job to those who stepped up to fill divisions) it seems that Tommy has pulled off the most successful US athletic event since the Salt Lake Olympics (any political aspirations you want to share?).
Good luck tomorrow to tourney teams and planners for a successful conclusion.
Lots to do to organize and run this tournament, 28 games in 2 days! I for one know the challenge and appreciate Tom's efforts. I did hear many suggestions for improvements and the board will discuss those things. But lets just take a moment and thank Tom and all who helped out to make this weekend happen. PS , I want each manager and any participant or spectator to send me a "comment card" via the pvt. message feature of this medium ...so we don't have to air it out on this bulletin board. Thanks guys, worst part it was my wife's car! She was able to get it in today and it was replaced in about 90 minutes.
Kudos to: John Reel, who fielded nightly calls from me for the past 10 days. Jim Bonaparte, who created a fourth team in the 25's literally overnight in order to save that division. He also secured Halfmoon Town Park field (really nice field) to help out. Not to mention the Schenectady Babe Ruth field with its concession stand and gracious hosts - just make sure you park as far down the RF line as you can. Joe Demarco, who worked with one of his players to secure Clifton Commons for three games. Chris Bonaparte, who not only managed the last minute team, but made it to the semi-finals. Mark Fitch, who handled many field/team changes with aplomb and had his guys there ready for us. Jimmy K, getting Kelts field - a gem of a diamond All of the managers who fielded competitive teams. My wife Pam - who not only puts up with me, but swapped out cars on Saturday so I could continue my rounds, then drove around all day with me on Sunday with both dogs in the back of my two-door.
