Game 2 of the championship series was again a 1 run game. The Dodgers being down 4-1, make a come from behind victory to win the 5-4 in the bottom of the 7th to defend the 35 championship title. Mick Novak and Jay Day combined their efforts on the mound with Jay getting the win. As everyone knows we lost Ralph in the off season, may he rest in peace, and in the spring we dedicated this season to him. We are sure he was with us last night to savoy the victory. I hope we made him proud. I would also like to add Mick stepped up big to take the reins of this team in Ralpie's absence and did a great job. He took the role of manager, which is no easy task in itself, still won I believe 9 games as a pitcher, player shortstop when not on the mound and was our lead off hitter most of the season. As guys know who have done this, it is difficult to manage and play full time. Congrats to the Cubs who played a heck of a series and for their first place finish this year...... Great season by all and now its time for all the injuries to heal so we can all do it again next year. Have a good off season.
A big tip of the cap to the Dodgers for the way they played both games. Both games could have gone either way, and it was the Dodgers making fewer mistakes and coming through when it counted most that got them both victories. That is how games are decided between two very evenly matched teams. It was disappointing as a baseball guy not being able to get this series to a third game, because it would have been a great game with Steve Lounello matching up against Jim Shook for all of the marbles.
I definitely felt Ralphie's presence with you guys last night! Congrats on a well deserved championship!
Speaking of Lounello and Shook - I've been in this league for 10+ years - haven's seen any pitchers (players) better than these guys. I played with Lounello for a couple of years - saw him throw two no-hitters and read of another and Shook - the guy pitches everyday (both ends of doubleheaders) and dominates.
I poked around our website today and was surprised to see neither is in the Hall of Fame. How are they not in the CDMSBL Hall of Fame? What is the criteria for that?
If I were to start a 35 team tomorrow - the first two guys I would pick would be these two guys - great pitcher's who can hit and play other positions extremely well.
Just one man's thoughts.
Congratulations to the Dodgers and it really is a shame game three didn't happen - Mr. Girard, you are correct - it sure would have been a great game.
