A season of fairly solid defense must have caught up with us because we probably committed close to if not over double digits in errors.
It started out ok after a leadoff single was wiped out by a double play to start the game. Things went downhill from there and just kept rolling ..... with two outs in the first two straight errors were followed by a Mark Dabney HR to put the Giants up 3-0. In the second inning with two outs a ball behind third base glanced off the shortstops' glove and plated two more runs (that was a tough play and a hit not an error in my book). An error on a bases loaded fly ball with two outs plated three more runs to put the Giants up 8-0.
Dodgers managed to put 3 on the board in the 4th but managed to give those back with more errors!!
It's tough to overcome a mistake or two against a solid team like the Giants .... when then mistakes reach double digits it just isn't happening.
With the Dodgers loss, the Golden Marlins clinched at least 2nd place in the regular season. Should the Giants lose 2 of their remaining 4 games (vs: Black Sox, Dodgers, Reds, and Yankees) and the Marlins win their last 2 games (vs: Reds and Yankees), the Marlins still could finish first, and bypass the round robin portion of the playoffs. I however, do not view that as a very good possibility, and am preparing to enter the round robin portion of the playoffs as the 2 seed. Remember: The number one overall seed has never shaken off the rust from the extended time off and won the championship! Just sayin! ;>)
