The Reds dodged the rain drops and a 7th inning Blue Jays rally, defeating the Jays 4-3 in a thriller at N.S. Taking a 2-0 lead into the botttom of the 6th, Reds starter Pete Geanellis, who had held the Jays in check all afternoon, clearly was not the same after a 20 minute rain delay, gave up singles to the first 2 batters, allowing the Jays first run of the day. Pete then struck out the next batter, but hit leadoff hitter Yakatan, putting the tying runs on base. After throwing ball 1 to the next hitter, Geanellis, who was having trouble with the wet mound, was replaced by the reluctant Joe Burns, who has to pitch in the 35 playoffs this week. Burns induced a groundball back to the box and a grounder to first on the next 2 hitters to end the inning and keep a 2-1 lead. In the top of the 7th, the Reds put 2 on the board, thanks to some shoddy defense and went to the Bottom of the 7th up 4-1. After Jonny Martin, another reluctant Reds hurler with 35 playoffs this week,(can't wait for the 35's to be done!)got Noto on a grounder back to the box for the first out, Latina, Aiello Foreman and Allen then followed with consecutive hits scoring 2 and putting runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out, with the score 4-3. The next Jays hittter, Weiser then hit a 1 hopper to Reds third baseman Chuck Handford who threw home to nail the fleet footed Dave Foreman, who broke for the plate on contact. Martin then got Dolan on a pop up to 1st to end the game. Leading the way for the Jays were Yakatan and Allen with 2 hits each, with Joe Carreccia the only player for the offensively challenged Reds with 2 hits. Both starters ptiched great, with Geanellis getting the win striking out 9 and Weber getting the loss, giving up 0 earned runs. Good luck to the Blue Jays the rest of the way, I'm sure we will see you in the playoffs. Did I mention I can't wait for the 35 playoffs to get over?
