The Marlins out hit the Black Sox 17-6, in a game that saw the Marlins take a 10-0 lead after just two innings. The Fish scored 6 runs in the first inning on two walks (Tom Maney and Tim Brown), 5 consecutive singles (Randy Craft, Mike Girard, Phil Gadomski, Mike Clary, and Mike Ferraro), and a sacrafice fly by Jim McQuade. They would add 4 runs in the second inning, on a double by TJ Scorsone, and singles by Maney, Brown, and Girard. They would score an eleventh run in the 3rd inning on a double by Mike Ferraro, and a RBI single by John Reel. Facing the 12-run mercy rule, the Black Sox scratched out two runs, in the 6th inning, on a single by Ed Klopfer, a double by Joe Hauser, and 3 walks (Charles Stanley, Jerry Solomon, and Greg Hoin). The Fish would score the final run of the game, in the top of the 7th inning, on consecutive singles by Jim McQuade, John Reel, and Skip Treece.
Mike Girard started for the Marlins and scattered six hits and 4 walks, while striking out 4, in his six innings of work. Randy Craft came on for a scoreless 7th, setting the Black Sox 1-2-3 hitters down in order, without a ball leaving the infield.
Ed Klopfer, Joe Hauser, and Dennis Buckley had 2 hits each for the Black Sox. Tom Maney, Mike Girard, Mike Clary, Mike Ferraro, John Reel, and Skip Treece all had two hits for the Fish. Girard drove in 4 and Phil Gadomski 3 to lead the Marlins.
The Golden Marlins now take a break until August 19th, when they face off against the Reds for the 3rd and final time in the regular season. The Fish welcome the time off as 3 very important players nurse recent hamstring injuries. Getting healthy for playoffs now becomes the main focus! See you on the 19th!
