45 Dodgers and Yankees play despite the forecast for the Perfect Storm Part 2

I did leave yours out .... although it was not intentional!

I show Sheehan as having a single in that last inning ..... but i was in the field so i was not keeping the book.

Maybe the ink ran with the rain ....

We can't count on the 3 seed either .... two games with the Giants and a season finale with the Black Sox leave us with our work cut out for us.

We could end up anywhere from 6th all the way up to #1 if we pass our litmus test and play ball against the Giants!

i had luciano with an E-5 ... and honestly we really do try and be as accurate as possible with the stats

thanks for the kind words

outside of yesterday we have played solid defense as well ...... all we can do is show up, hustle, put the bat on the ball and make plays ... which we all do from top to bottom

good luck to the yankees the rest of the way as well .... and heck .... your highlanders too for that matter since that whole thing starts to count in a week or so!

Dodgers / Yankees had a game scheduled for 545 last night ..... driving to the game reminded me of the scene from the Perfect Storm when they decided to run back to port directly through the storm ... they were in calm seas and enjoying nice weather but off in the distance they could see clouds, lightning and thunder. As i headed out towards Swift Road you could see the dark clouds and bad weather rolling in over the Helderbergs.

Despite the forecast and clouds rolling in at 545 it was beautiful .... so we played ball! .... Kisselburgh for the Bums versus Luciano for the Yankees. With the occasional rumble of thunder in the distance it stayed dry through the 3rd or 4th inning.

Dodgers start off the top of the first with back to back singles by Newcomb and Corrigan to put 2 on with no out but were unable to plate a run. After a leadoff K the Yankees would get a single from Caruso but that was it for the first inning. After a leadoff out in the top of the second the Dodgers get a runner when Bonaparte is hit by a pitch. Next batter grounds out to leave one on base with two outs. Two more walks load the bases for Newcomb who is hit by a pitch for the Dodgers first run. A wild pitch allows Obertubessing to score run #2. A walk to Corrigan loads the bases again. Reed follows with a 2 RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0. Caputo follows with a single but the following batter grounds into a fielders choice to end the inning.

The Dodgers get the first two batters out in the 2nd before an error and a walk put runners on first and second but the next batter hits a ball in front of the plate and Labarge throws him out at first to end the threat.

A scoreless third is followed by a single and stolen base by Newcomb who advanced to third on a past ball and scored on an RBI groundout by Corrigan to put the Dodgers up 5-0. Yankees go 1-2-3 in the 4th and around that time the rain picked up to a steady drizzle.

After a scoreless 6th the rain really picked up and made it tough to throw a strike! Dodgers score 4 in the 7th to go up 9-0. Newcomb starts it off with a single, Corrigan is hit by a pitch, Reed walks to load the bases. After a fielders choice with a ground ball to the shortstop that foced the runner at home Corrigan scores on a balk, Kanellis walks, another ground ball to the short forces the runner at home but leaves the bases loaded. Bonaparte follows with an RBI single and Labarge follows that with a 2 RBI single to put the Dodgers up 9-0.

The bottom of the 7th proved eventful as the Yankees would use a leadoff walk, a single, two errors and two more walks to plate three runs and load the bases with the top of the lineup looming. A trip to the bullpen for Ralph Caputo ended the threat on a groundout to the shortstop.

For the Dodgers Newcomb went 3-3 plus a walk with an RBI and two stolen bases, Caputo had 2 singles, Labarge and Reed with 2 RBI singles, Bonaparte with an RBI single and singles by Corrigan and Kanellis. Yankees had singles from Caruso, Royka, Ambridge and Sheehan.

Dodgers move to 10-3 with the win and face a tough stretch with two straight versus the first place Giants.

Looking forward to seeing how the Dodgers do in their "lithmus test" vs. the Giants.
You boys haven't played a top tier team in a while.
Good luck.
Not sure why you play two vs. the Giants, but only one against the Golden Marlins???

Hey ~ you left my hit out!!!
Bahahaha...
Not one of my best, but it kept my hitting streak alive tho...
And Sheehan didn't have anything even remotely resembling a hit, so maybe you got me confused with him, even if he does weigh 100 lbs more!

Jim Kissleburgh pitched awesome and froze me with a 3-2 curve to start the game... He was the difference as though he tired in the 7th, he pitched an absolute gem... And still would've had a CG had you guys not booted a few there at the end...
Of course, it was 9-0 at the time...

With all the pitching and solid offensive line-up you have, the Dodgers can not be overlooked in the playoffs and I think you have the 3 seed in hand...

We gotta straighten ourselves out as we thin in the pitching department...

And i definitely did not give Jim Kisselburgh the appropriate credit for his gem.

Outside of the 6th inning he allowed no runs and only four hits and one walk.

Even the 7th inning runs were unearned as we would have been out of the inning had we have not made the first error.

He was mad at me because i yanked him last weekend a couple of batters before he had to leave and wanted to show me i should have left him in

Yes you could indeed!
You have put together a very nice team John and should be commended for such... You guys could win it all if you play up to your capabilities and get a break here or there...

And yeah, our book has Sheehan getting on base, but it was a clear error on the 3rd baseman and I guess your scorekeeper just saw it differently ~ though wow, that one was not exactly a "judgement call" since it was directly at him and he simply booted it...
But anyways, no biggie ~ everyone keeps the book differently and it's what you get w/out an "official" scorer...
Thing is, Artie did the same thing on our game last weekend and I was beginning to not get a lil paranoid about it, but wondering how in the hell I could be confused with someone else who didn't get a hit again as they were near the bottom of the order and I guess the scorekeeper just messed it up by missing a batter somewhere or something...
But again, this highlights just how INaccurate the stats are as everyone has their own view on things as they transpire, and certainly teams are more concerned about their own guys then the other teams...

Nevertheless, Good luck to you guys as the season winds down and yeah, I gotta check the schedule and see if there are any conflicts for me, but I'd like to see the game(s) between you 2 as they promise to be good ones I think...

So what happened to Jorge? Came out of retirement to shut out the Reds and no mas? Did we make it too easy for him :)

Yeah, Jorge is a game-changer ~ probably even a better all-around player then Luonello, but alas, he choose to take the offer of a traveling softball team which pays him a couple hundred dollars and expenses to travel with them... Can't blame him really... Plus they have a lot of good players and well, we have some major holes on the Yankees that I am not really sure how they did not get exploited last year ~ maybe we just got lucky ~ but either way, something's gotta change as we have way too much talent to let the holes in the line-up stop us from winning...
Oh yeah, and then Jorge got hurt playing softball too ~ tore his pec I think... Out for the year...

And yeah John, Luciano got on by an E-5, but so did Sheehan ~ your third baseman had a tough inning for sure...
Jim actually deserved a shutout CG as again, he pitched a great game...

Not sure what a lithmus test is .... ...... but we are looking forward to our litmus test (i googled the spelling to know if i should bust your chops or vice versa)

The schedule was based on seeding due to the unbalanced nature of the schedule. Marlins were #1 seed, Giants i believe were #4 and we were # 5 ........ the middle seeded teams play each other more and the top and bottom teams only one time.

I am not predicting anything other than we will show up and give it our best ..... we only won 3 games last year so no matter how things turn out we have made big improvements in just one year.

Hey Girard, nice work giving the Dodgers some BB material!!!

That team is good enough without having to be injected with a heavy dose of motivation. It's not the teams you play, it's how you play against the teams you play. And the Dodgers play one mean game of baseball - top to bottom. No holes in that team. There are no easy games in this division, either. Our schedule is relentless the rest of the way.

stomach-aching Giants manager
