This one was closer than the final score.

On a hot and sunny Wednesday night at Central Babe Ruth, the Cubs improved their league leading record to 9-1-1, with a 10-3 win over the Highlanders. The game was tied 2-2 through 3 innings, and the Cubs didn't take control of the game until the top of the fourth, when they plated 5 runs.
The big blows, in the inning, were a 2-RBI single by Randy Craft and a 2-RBI double by Mike Girard.
The Highlanders bounced back with an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap to 7-3, but that was as close as they would get. Cubs' starter, Mike Girard, shut the Highlander offense out over the final 3 innings, scattering just 3 singles and one walk. Girard pitched a complete game, giving up more than one single in only the second inning.
Craft, Girard, Dan Mirabile, and Shawn Maney all had two hits for the Cubs, while Pat O'Sullivan led the way for the Highlanders with two singles.
Next up for the Cubs, in a very busy July, is a meeting with the Reds on Saturday morning at New Scotland town park.
