On a perfect Sunday afternoon for baseball, the Golden Marlins pounded out 14 hits and worked 6 walks in six innings in beating the Reds 13-1, to finish the first half of the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record. TJ Scorsone, Phil Gadomski, Tom Maney, and Mike Girard led the way with two hits each. Maney drove in 3 and scored a run; and Scorsone drove in 2 and scored 2. Meanwhile, Jim Ansel and John Latorre limited the potent Reds attack to just seven hits and one walk, while giving up just one run (on a double steal). Ansel started and pitched five complete, giving up 1 run on 5 hits and one walk. John Latorre pitched a scoreless 6th inning, giving up just 2 two-out singles before striking out the final Reds batter of the game. Ansel and Latorre were backed up by some very solid defense as the Marlins played an error free game, with two double plays turned by the infield and a spectacular running catch by Mike Clary in center field to rob Eddie Class of a sure double. Next up for the 8-0 Golden Marlins is the Blue Jays next Sunday (7/15). The Reds drop to 6-4 with the loss, and next try to rebound vs the 7-1 Giants next Sunday.
