The WhizKids battled back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat the Marlins 9-7. After a slow start, Jim Konstantakis retired the last 7 batters he faced to get the win. Darrell Duncan pitched the final 3 innings for the save. The Marlins scored 3 times in the 1st, Newcomb, Foley, and Treece crossing the plate with Treece and Wixon collecting RBI'S. They added another in the 2nd when Newcomb came home on a single by Foley. The Whiz got 2 runs back in their half of the frame on consecutive singles by Mike Lannon, Jeff Teats, and Dave Palmer (who also had an RBI), and a run scoring groundout by Anthony Torre. Ed Klopfer scored for the 'Kids in the 3rd on a fielder's choice, 2 stolen bases, and an error. The Whiz took the lead for good with 3 runs in the 4th, as Lannon, Teats, and Palmer scored on RBI'S from Palmer, Konstantakis, and Torre. The Marlins got within 1 in the 5th on a run scoring fielder's choice by Burriesci that plated Foley, but an RBI single by Tom Maney and a 2-run double by Duncan upped the lead to 9-5. The Fish had no quit in them as they scored twice in the 7th (Dorn, and that Newcomb again!), before Duncan put out the fire. Hats off to Ed Diegel and the rest of the Marlins for a great game.
