Friday evening was a beautiful day for baseball. The imagined crowds were gathering at the gate, anticipating a great event, not unlike the Frog Jumping contest of 02. The Hawks and Cougars were meeting in what turned out to be an historic, if not passive contest. The Hawks started their crafty lef hander, Dave Foreman, while the Cougars countered with their tricky righty, Al Hart. The hawks struck first, scoring 4 runs. (apparently that was the Cougars plan to tire them out). Well, it almost worked. The Cougars eventially pulled ahead. However they couldn't maintain the high altitude.(just were not use to it).The lead went back and forth, and at the end of 7, the game was tied. Mike Hart had replaced the lefty by this time, and was credited with the win. Iron horse Al Hart pitched the entire game for the Cougars. It really was a magnificent effort. Many times you could hear his fast ball wizz through the air, whispering across the corner of the plate, and the inevitable right hand of Jimmy K, going up. His efforts were not in vain. When it was over the victory to the Hawks (9-8) was recorded for history. (along with the winning frog contest). Those imagined fans left, knowing just that they indeed experienced history. As the smoked from the car exhaust cleared, we all went on our way, perhaps home to share a brew and a warm heart. TS
