The long awaited 55+ Division opening day was a chilly damp Tuesday evening with the Americans facing off against the Damn Yankees. Brad Buchan and Bill Kervan started for their respective squads with the Yanks striking first in the bottom of the 1st with two runs on two walks and a hit by Steve Vangelder. The Americans erupted for six runs in the top of the 2nd with some walks, a sacrifice, a sharply hit double by Rob Rugen and singles by Tom Henderson and Nick Kanellis. Both teams were shut down in the 3rd and 4th. The Americans plated another run in the 5th on a double by Ken Zimmer and single by Buchan and the Yanks brought a run home on a single by Greg Woolston in the 6th resulting in a 7-3 final for the Americans . Buchan went the distance for the Americans giving up five hits, walking two, striking out three. Kervan went four innings giving up six runs, three hits, five walks and striking out six. Jim Ansel relieved in the 5th for the Yanks yielding two hits, a run and striking out two. Ansel doubled, Tim Brown and Bob Weitz singled for the Yanks. The game went six innings due to darkness. The 55 Division is rolling.
