and thanks for posting the account. i love to read accounts of cdmsbl guys in tournaments elsewhere, especially in winter or fall, and i'm sure i'm not alone on that score. those stories give us a sense of the season about to come or an agreeable stretching out of the one just past.
and imagine, in march, you guys are already rust-free.
so thanks for writing it, and way to go, albany (and maine)!

Would first like to say thanks to Ralph and Pete for coming to Vegas to play. They both were outstanding on the baseball field. The three of us made A good showing for CDMSBL. We played for the Maine Indians and it was an honor to play with them, they treated us like we were one of them. We were 2-1 in round robin play to be seeded 6 going into the single elimination round. We won the first game 10-8. In the second game we played the number seed from California and was down by 4 going into the top of the ninth and scored 6 runs to beat them. We made it to the championship game only to lose to a team from Seattle. If any of you get a chance to play with Ed Simmons the coach from Maine do it he is a class act. I would also like to thank Pete's and Ralph's wives along with mine and the 4 wives from Maine who rooted us on the whole time. For being the team from farthest away we always had the most fans and the loudest in the bleachers. Can't wait till next year.
Awesome! You are a cool Yankee brother Rick and a class act yourself... Plus Pete and Ralph are pretty damn classy guys themselves and it's really cool you guys got to kick off the year together in style... And with your wives as well... Maybe my honey and I can make it next year to join ya'll as I agree with Mike, you gave a fine account and helped to get the juices flowing...
And you are coming to the Yankees v Highlanders pre-season scrimmage Sunday, right???
Ricky said it well... We had a double header a day for three days... We were a couple arms short, sound familiar. A great team effort with contributions up and down the board. Got some breaks in the semi finals against the number 1 seed from LA ( needless to say all of those boys were bi-lingual) and in the finals loaded the bases twice with no runs produced, missing by inches.. Tired legs and no breaks gave it to the Seattle team. The Seattle team had a nice mix with again some youthful speed a la Detroit 60's 2010 fall classic. They combined some true small ball (by turning around a righty hitter with a man on first to shield the runner on first from the catcher) with some timely hitting while fatigue got the best of us as our hitting dropped off against this very hittable lefty who was just throwing strikes. I caught 5 of the 6 and I can tell you if anyone is thinking about doing crossfit go for it... I didn't have to ice once. No 40 lb ice baths for me. All those squats in crossfit seems to finally be the key to getting in shape.. Still no ring! Looking forward to 2012 fall classic.. Go Albany!
no more ice? no way! great to hear of your success, so close to the championship! competition is so fierce out there. Always good to be able to partner with the Maine boys. But next year get a few more Albany guys to put you over the top. jreel PS anyone ever go to the other MSBL spring tournies?
Best time I've had at any tourney, at any level, was Puerto Rico 2009.
We split a 2BR condo with another CDMSBL guy and his wife and went as pool players. We stayed in prime location (Isla Verde), bought dinner for teammates and had a great time - 8 nights in condo, including ALL expenses was $2,700 per couple.
That's not chump change, but think about it. Nine days, all the baseball you can handle, great hosts, and a caribbean beach destination. The year we went the wives got massages on the beach on Valentine's Day. The best part for them was it wasn't their husband who did it.
Would love to take a team down there with some help.
Just back from Vegas today. Picked a great week to be out there. The temps in mid 70's all week..perfect bb weather. As Rick said, Ed Simmons and the Maine team were wonderful hosts to us Albany guys. Treated us like we were always part of their team. Solid play from Petey all week...MVP>>>MVP. Rick chipped in with timely hitting and a never give up attitude. The wives were always there and lifted us to an exciting comeback in the semi final that propelled us to the championship game. If we had one more pitcher... Pretty amazing to beat a team from a Cali who plays year round with a bunch of New Englanders and frozen Albanians who hadn't played since last year. What fun.
