Kalinski, Joan FAIRFAX, Va. - Joan Pateman Kalinski, age 80, died on October 3, 2011, in Fairfax, after a long illness. Joan was the older daughter of William and Margaret Pateman of Watervliet. She was a member of the class of 1948 at Watervliet High School. She worked for the New York Telephone Company, where she met her husband, John Kalinski, whom she married in 1951. They lived in Latham for 44 years and had seven children. In 1995, they moved to Atlanta, where she lived until 2009, when she moved to Fairfax. Her husband died in 2003. Joan was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham. She was active for many years at Saint Gregory's School, serving as president of the Mother's Association from 1978 to 1979, a member of the board of trustees and she started the school lunch program and the annual garage sale. She was the president of the ladies auxiliary for Latham Babe Ruth in 1978. Joan was the mother of the late Paul Kalinski (died 1956) and Phillip Kalinski (died 1975), and she is survived by five children, David Kalinski of Washington, D.C., Diane Kalinski Tebbel of Atlanta, Susan Kalinski Petrovich of Vienna, Va., Janice Kalinski Garcia of Vienna and John Kalinski Jr. of Glenmont; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on October 27 at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. Interment will be on November 26 in Arlington Memorial Park in Atlanta.
