I answered a post this year a couple of games into the season looking, no, praying for a catcher for a game or two. As Dick Stark once called me, "Herb Carter is a baseball whore", I thought to myself, I can catch one or two more games for fun. But I found the Cougars. I did actually catch a game much later in the year but that first night I played shortstop, then pitched,. The next game I was center field and feeling 18 again. But we needed some players and some consistency. Frank was open to suggestions and after moving couple guys around, we started doing a little better with occasional flashes of brilliance.
I know there have been some gripes about the quality of play against this team but somewhere towards the end of the season I saw a corp group of guys start to come together and I know a couple of players that I am going to bring to the team next year and I am personally going to guarantee you will see a different level of play from this team next year. And I am proud of all the members this year that came and played through the tough times.
I would like to echo what Herb said. Although I only played 2 games on the 45 Cougars, I throughly enjoyed myself. Most of my Cougar games were with the "senior" team. I guess most of you out there would tell us we weren't very good. I even heard some rumors that we should disband. The reason being we were not enough competition, no fun to play. If I had a choice of course I would rather win a game. There has to be some room for guys that are not especially talented, to play baseball. After all, we did pay our fees. If you don't like playing against us, then don't show up. It's that simple. To make it more challenging, bat the opposite way you usually do. I strongly believe with two or three key players we will be a substanntially better team. ----For me personally, I'm proud to be a Cougar, and I look forward to playing again next year. btw that's my choice. Tony
Being an ex 45 &53 Cougar I know were you guys are coming from. The name of the game is having a good time and counting our blessing we all can still do this at our age. Good luck next season ,and I for one hope to see you guys stay together and play in 2012. Harold
