When the final day of the regular season began, the Yankees needed to beat the Marlins and then have the Marlins bounce back and beat the Blue Jays in order to move from the 7th seed to the 6th seed. Well both games went the Yankees way!
In game one, the Yankees pouded out 19 hits in a 12-6 victory over the Fish. Mike Reutter led the Yankee attack with 3 singles. Mark Marshall, Kevin Jackson, John Kalinski, and Ray Demers all had two hits each. Mike Girard led the Marlins offense with a double, 2 singles, and 2 RBI's. Batting champion Phil Gadomski was a perfect 2 for 2, with a walk.
In game two, Mike Girard and Mike Clary combined to allow just two runs on 6 hits, as the Golden Marlins ended the regular season with a 6-2 victory over the Blue Jays. Girard gave up 2 runs on 6 hits, and 3 walks, while striking out 5, in his 5 innings of work. Mike Clary faced the minimum 6 batters in his two innings in relief. Girard and Clary also led the offense with 3 hits each. Tom Maney, Mike Ferraro, and Bob Coffey added two hits each. The Blue Jays were led by Dave Latina and Bob Yakatan, who had two hits each.
The outcomes of the two games left the Yankees and the Blue Jays both at 9-7, but the Yankees won both games between the two teams, therefore the Blue Jays are the 7th seed and the Yankees are the 6th seed.
The Golden Marlins head off on a two week hiatus at 14-2, and await the three survivors of the double elimination round of the playoffs scheduled for next week.

That's what I LIKE ~ Competitiveness baby!!! Yes they might, yes they MIGHT! Or might NOT!
We'll see soon enough though, won't we???
As with most teams in the league, if we don't beat ourselves, we can beat anyone...
Which btw, any one of those 4 teams could definitely ALSO beat the Fish... I just think we would get you in the semi's because we would be the lowest seed to advance ~ so the others might not get a chance... Jus saying ~ nobody's handing the trophy to you guys and you are definitely going to have to earn it as the 45 division is packed with several good, solid teams that all have a legitimate shot at walking away with the prize...
According to history, the Golden Marlins have the toughest road to the crown. No number one seed has ever won the tournament in its current form. Don't read into my words. They are what they are. Having played all of the teams at least once, my prediction is for the Giants, Reds, and Blue Thunder to advance past the double-elimination tournament. No slight to you or the other 5 teams, just my humble opinion that it will take a deep pitching staff and solid defense to make it through. I think all 3 of those teams fit that description best. Good luck to all!
