The 45+ title is headed to Maine on a temporary basis
The Maine Indians beat the Marlins 9-4 yesterday. It was 4-3 Maine through 4 or so then they pulled away .... they hit well, fielded well, pitched well and were the better team.
Hey Pete...the guy called Doc (Dan Proctor) shut the Marlins down pretty good. We made two mistakes in the first inning that accounted for 2 runs...other than that Doc went to work on the hill and took over.
Yup. It definitely looked like 5 games in 2 days was too much for the 45+ Marlins gang. Many of the 9 runs allowed in the championship game were of the unearned variety as we made errors that we just don't usually make. We actually ran out of gas late in the semi-final. Up 10-2, as late as the 5th inning, we had to hold on for dear life (10-9) in that one. I think that we ought to make the championship game Monday morning, like it used to be.
Aw, c'mon Mike! Many of the runs? Look at the book...we hit the ball when it counted and got base hits. If you want to be technical and put aside unearned runs...do that for us as well and we still outscored you. Our Indians squad came prepared to play. The Marlins may have run our of gas this past weekend...however, that didn't seem to be an issue in 2010 when you guys won.
just so you know the 3 game sunday was implemented after feedback from out of towners. it saves them a night's hotel stay and associated road expenses. To me this tounry is about our guest first. while local feedback is helpful, without the Maine's , Rochesters, Vt. Buffalo , and other faithful who travel here we just have local reshuffled intramural event. I am sure our tourny director has already contacted these managers to get their opinions. and this is one reason why we continue to attract so many from all over the northeast.
and my 2 cents. I will endeavor to organize a 55 division next year. who'd play out there? jreel, tounry founder .
What about having the first round games on friday night? ...... then the second game on saturday morning followed by the first round of the elimination part of the tournament on Saturday.
Then you could have the semis and finals on Sunday .... you would have all day Sunday to play two games so you would have some flexibility with the weather (and more flexibility on Saturday as well) .. you would still have Monday as a backup if it rained Sunday.
None of the teams in the semis would have the advantage of not having to play 3 games in a day ..... but if there is a team that gets a bye they would have the advantage of not having to play back to back double headers.
Most of the teams travel on Friday anyway so they would just need to leave a little earlier...... the local guys would need to be available for a 5 PM game.
This would address many concerns.

we used to have a friday night optional game , most times this involved locals. this was when we had 30 plus teams and we did this to ease the crunch of games on saturday. we could implement this again if lit fields were in supply. or ask locals to take off work friday or early since we are asking out of towners the same thing if they wanted to play Friday. and yes its nice to have Labor Day monday as a shift to day if its rains. We have used that on a few occasions. remember too that the format could be adjusted to allow for 2 byes depending on the number of teams entered and even if you went to a "b" flight out of Saturday.
