The Golden Marlins improved their record to 12-1 on Sunday with a win over the Dodgers. With the win, the Marlins cliched at least a tie for the regular season title. The Reds are the only team that stand in the way as they can finish at 12-4, with a victory over the Golden Marlins in their only remaining game. If the Reds could pull of that win, the would then need help from the Yankees and Blue Jays, who are the GM's other remaining games. If all were to go the Reds' way the two teams would end up tied and would have a 1-1 tie of the series. Just one win by the Marlins the rest of the way and they will ahve the #1 seed and go straight to the semi-finals, avoiding the the double elimination round that determines the other 3 semi finalists.
On Sunday, the Fish used a 16 hit attack and a solid pitching performance from Mike Girard and Mike Clary. The Golden Marlins got 3 hits and 4 RBI's from Mike Girard and Ron Lochner. Phil Gadomski continued his MVP season with a 3 for 3 game, scoring twice and driving in a run. Mash moved his league leading batting average to .605, while he is a pefect 8-0 on the mound with a ERA of 1.51, and WHIP of just 1.19! Without Mash, the Marlins would be back in the pack, struggling to get a good spot for the first round of the playoffs, instead of sitting comfortably atop the standings, looking very much like the team to beat.
John Latorre, Mike Clary, and Bob Coffey each had two hits for the Fish. Mike Girard got the start in this game for the Golden Marlins and gave up 3 runs (just one earned run) on 4 singles and 1 walk, while striking out 5. Mike Clary came on to pitch the 5th, and got the Dodgers out without giving up a run and surrendering just one single.
Wayne Newcomb, Frank Kerbein, Paul Celentano, and Ed Obertussing got the hits for the Dodgers.
The rest of the Golden Marlins make-ups will have to wait for a week as the 35+ Cubs will be involved in playoff games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday against the Hummnbirds; and the Pirates square off on those same days against the Dodgers. 10 of the 12 active players on the Marlins roster will be involved in those playoff games. Friday night is a possibility, but the balance of the make-ups will need to be made up the week after the Labor Day tournament. The 35+ finals will be that week, but the teams involved in the finals are yet to be determined. It should be an interesing two weeks.

But I do have one question: You said the rest of the Marlins 45 makeups will have to wait because you have 35 playoffs.
The Giants have one game remaining - Tues. nite with the Vets. We will be without Lounello, Bolt, Kane, Smaka and Labanowski due to playoffs and Reisinger on vacation, yet we have scheduled the game anyway and will be borrowing a player or two to get it in. Why can't the Marlins do the same?
Jim, Maybe you are not good at math. I am here to help.
I could have sworn that I said in the original blog that we have 12 active players on the roster and 10 are involved in the playoffs.
Here is where the math comes in:
12 players, minus 10 players, leaves 2 players.
Follow me one more step:
With only two Marlins left, we would need to borrow at least 6 players to start a game. Why would we even call that team the Golden Marlins???
Besides, why should I, or any of the players involved in the 35+ playoffs, including your guys, be penalized for that. We, as a league, have always made accomodations for players involved in other divisions playoffs, in regards to scheduling. We all paid the same money for league fees, and we would all like to get what we paid for. What is the problem with playing games next week??? I can't even imagine why you would want to penalize those involved in playoffs??? Where is the down side here?
Our team on Tues. certainly will not be the Giants, either. Our 45 playoffs are supposed to start after Labor Day, not the weekend after Labor Day.
So there's no time after the Labor Day weekend to make up the games. Without a deadline, the 45 playoffs may go into late October again as it did three years ago when we froze our, um, toes off.
I was told long ago that when conflicts arise, we may have to make choices. The Giants have had to do that in the past, like last year when the Orioles and Giants were each scheduled on a Thursday night and I was told the schedule would stand as is. So we had to break up the players and we had to borrow a player.
Hey, I added a player from the 55 Division to have a deeper roster or I'd have only 5 players for Tuesday. John told me to borrow players and get the game in. I believe he means that for all teams.
I'm just thinking bigger picture in that whatever teams get to the finals they don't play under the lights in 34 degree temps as teams did a few years ago.
Besides, with all your money, what's a few bucks to not play a game!
You can't seem to follow me. Borrowing two players is ALOT DIFFERENT from borrowing six players. The play-in games can still be played on Labor Day AND we can still have a make-up or two next week. I don't see the problem with that. How does that put you out if the other teams we have make-ups with agree?! Besides the average temperature in October is in the sixties. We don't start dropping lower than that until Halloween. Maybe you could get something fro Jerry Solomon (pharmacist) to improve your circulation. On top of that, it doesn't matter how much any one makes. We all pay the same, we should all be allowed to play the same amount of regular games.
Your memory circulation needs some of Jerry's drugs. We played well b4 Halloween and it was 34 degrees that night. I know you remember it well.
You're not following me. We should be able to play when we have our whole team, too. If we can move our game to after Labor Day, then I don't care. I was led to believe the playoffs start during the week after Labor Day and making up games that week would push back the playoffs. Then what happens if we get even more rain? That's been known to happen in the Northeast. And what happens if your Cubbies go on to the next round? You'd be playing 7 days in a row or postponing even further.
I just want the playing surface to be the same for all, that's all I'm saying. I've asked John if we can reschedule to after Labor Day too. And I CC'd you on it. Whatever plays out from here, I'll go with the flow. jk
Looking at the 35 Schedule, looks like thursday night would be great for the Reds - Marlins makeup. The weather looks nice for the week, so there shouldn't be any makeups for the playoffs that night. i know John had us tentatively scheduled for Friday, but that is gonna be real hard due to the holiday weekend. Lets find a field and play Thurdsday night. Mike??
Dave, You will want to call John Reel to discuss that move. I was only the acting manager while he was in Texas with his family. He is back now and is back in charge of the Golden Marlins. An FYI: The schedule for the 35+ playoffs might be pushed back due to the flooding at Bob Moore and in Kingston.

Jumpin' Jacks got flooded out and closed down for now. So Bob Moore appears iffy. Anyone have info on that? And thanx Mike for still allowing me some cold ones from your cooler! jk
This Thursday may see a 35 Game 3 if necessary - both games are off tonight.
Bob Moore is done until next Spring. Only activity will be if we get asked to help clean the field after the 11' of water is gone, not to mention passing barges.
