An ugly win for the Giants, who allowed just 4 hits in gaining a win in the 45 Division opener for both teams Sunday at New Scotland Town Park.
The teams combined to walk 15 batters and hit two more in a game called after six due to darkness.
Mike Kane pitched just one inning, the 4th, to earn the win and Steve Lounello closed out the victory in the 6th with a very welcomed 1-2-3 inning.
The Giants pounded out 11 hits around 9 walks and a hit batsman and scored in just two innings, including an 8-run 5th, to give the Giants a 14-4 lead.
The Yankees scored 4 times in the 3rd to take a 4-0 lead before the Giants answered with a 4-spot in the 4th, highlighted by four consecutive doubles to start the inning by Lounello, Ron Smaka, Doug Reisinger and Paul Scutieri before Jim Whitford's RBI single capped the inning.
Lounello, Smaka and Scutieri each had two hits and scored twice fior the Giants. Bryant, Caruso and Reutter each scored twice for the Yankees.
